Healthcare payment systems are structured payment structures that assist patients in paying for their treatments directly, through copays, or through insurance coverage. Healthcare payment structures based on paper are a thing of the past. Because of their speed and convenience, the new digital health payment methods are being implemented across the healthcare business. Healthcare payment systems based on the amount of services delivered, often known as fee-for-service, are being phased out in favour of value-based care, in which payments are made based on the value of those services. Healthcare providers and payers are rapidly transitioning to value-based healthcare payment systems, but many are having difficulty making the enormous changes required to succeed.
